President Yoweri Museveni has pledged government funding to scientific innovators, saying it is the role of the government to avail them of enough money without delay.

He said he was impressed with a group of innovators from Mbarara University, led by Keith Richard Kwagala who were involved in electronic innovations and came up with a gadget that monitors the blood clot in the body.

The president pledged that he would develop a bamboo project in Rwampara to make paper and save the country over $200m spent on imported paper.

He encouraged youth to embrace BPO or Business Processing Outsourcing which can give them employment with companies abroad.

He also wants the youth to focus on the knowledge economy saying there were government experts making strides in innovations including the National Agricultural Research Organisation where experts have just discovered a tick vaccine, which the government was rolling out.

Heart warning device:

Keith Richard Kwagalais is a Biomedical engineering student at Mbarara University.

His innovation is Primitivus a portable diagnostic device that utilizes advanced acoustic signal analysis to detect the early warning signs of the major causes of ischemic stroke and heart conditions.

This bridges the gap of the lack of constant monitoring for high-risk patients so that patients do not succumb to abrupt deaths and major attacks because warning signs are missed.

The device will also be used for fast triaging in hospitals for stroke and cardiovascular risk assessment given we have 60 cardiologists serving millions of Ugandans.

To ensure that the technology remains Ugandan owned, they are pursuing an international patent.

This technology is developed by Novitas Diagnostics Ltd, a biomedical solutions company started by a multidisciplinary team of students at Mbarara University including a medical doctor Anano Hilda, Kibande Steven, Muhumuza Sidney, and Collins Atwiine.

Dr. Johnes Obungoloch the dean is part of the team and Dr. Barigye Celestine the hospital director of Mbarara Hospital has interacted with the device in its development and recommends its novelty. Primitivus is poised to revolutionize healthcare.

Keith is also CEO of Novitas Diagnostics.

Primitivus has attracted various investment from Kenya including Villgro Africa and international grants including VC4A and locally with Youth Startup Academy Uganda and continue to seek the necessary support to make Primitivus help against stroke. Keith and the team are most grateful for the support the President of the Republic of Uganda has promised to give to Primitivus and Novitas Diagnostics Limited.
